Overview The Holy Spirit Seminary is here to serve the Church of Queensland. Its mission remains as vital and clear as ever: to prepare men for the unique and challenging role of ordained ministry in the Catholic Dioceses of Queensland. Those who accept the mission of Jesus Christ are formed as priests to bring the Good News of God’s Kingdom to all. They do so in the spirit of the Second Vatican Council and are guided by the principle that their work “may in all things be pleasing to God”. The seminary community is marked by prayer, particularly the Eucharist, and the sharing of life and faith. The communal life of the seminary is a support for the students as the process of formation unfolds. Life together involves sharing meals, celebrations and household duties. Coming from many parts of Queensland bonds are formed that last into the years of pastoral ministry. Before the seminary relocated to Wavell Heights in 2002 it was known as the Pius XII Seminary, founded in the 1940’s at Banyo. In 2008 the Seminary returned to the grounds of the former Pius XII Seminary at Banyo, now operating as the Australian Catholic University McAuley campus. The seminary is co-located with the ACU and benefits greatly from being in close proximity to the University’s library and other facilities, as well as the St Paul’s Theological College, which is also located on the ACU Campus.
