Office for Pastoral Councils, Archdiocese of Brisbane
Judy Norris, who has been the Ministry Development Officer for Pastoral Councils for the past two years, will shift her ministry focus to the Mater Children’s Hospital as a member of their Pastoral Care team from March 26, 2012. Judy has enjoyed immensely her very busy schedule of providing education and formation for Pastoral Councils in the Archdiocese and is sad to leave this work behind as she follows a new call to Mission.
 In the immediate future, Sr Mary Franzmann pbvm, who has an extensive background in Pastoral Councils will be available to respond to requests from Pastoral Councils.

Upper Mt Gravatt Wishart Parish Pastoral Council
The Pastoral Council of Upper Mt Gravatt Wishart parish held a weekend retreat and formation experience for all members of the Pastoral Council and the Parish Leadership Team on March 2nd and 3rd at the Presentation Spirituality Centre at Manly.
Those who attended described the experience as one of the best things they could have done as a Council and they look forward to a whole new way of understanding their role and working to together to build the life and spirit of the parish. Fr Ian Wren and pastoral Associate, Trish Stapleton, planned the day and Judy Norris, Ministry Development Officer for Pastoral Councils lead the retreat and formation sessions.
Fr Malachy Onuoha, recently appointed Associate Pastor in the parish spoke very highly of the weekend and enjoyed finding out more about the role of the Council and the people in his parish. Strong relationships are foundational to successful Pastoral Councils and parishes and through this experience members came to know each other in a whole new way by spending this time together.

Springfield Pastoral Council
After becoming Brisbane’s newest parish on June 19, 2011, Our Lady of the Southern Cross, at Springfield, elected its first Pastoral Council on September 5, 2011. Most Rev Joseph Oudeman OFM Cap DD commissioned the members of the Pastoral Council at the Sunday mass attended by 350 parishioners on October 2, 2011. A family BBQ lunch followed the Mass. The enthusiasm and joy exuded by the new Pastoral Council is palpable. They have had a significant period of preparation and discernment and are most keen to begin planning for the pastoral growth of their active and energetic community. Fr Mauro Conte (Parish Priest) and Gelyn Javate (Pastoral Associate) have been embraced by the community in their leadership roles and together with the Pastoral Council will be nurturing and guiding lights for the coming journey. Judy Norris, the Pastoral Councils’ support and resource person from the Faith and Life Vicariate, has assisted the new parish with its education and formation of parishioners on the nature and role the Pastoral Council. Judy conducted information gatherings for those recommended by the community for membership to the Pastoral Council and guided the discernment and appointment process. Judy will continue to accompany the Pastoral Council in its foundational journey. Pastoral Councils are a policy requirement in the Archdiocese of Brisbane and have a unique and very important role in the life of the parish.
