The Synod Assembly
The Synod Assembly commenced on Thursday evening 1 May 2003 with an opening Eucharist. On Friday 2 May 2003, the 800 members were involved in small group discussion on two draft Broad Action Proposals each. The seven draft proposals were re-written overnight to reflect the day's discussions.
On Saturday 3 May 2003 all finalised Broad Action Proposals were presented one by one to Synod members in a Plenary Session. Members were then invited to vote by secret ballot to indicate whether or not they supported each of the "essential action lines" included in the Broad Action Proposals. Stronge support was indicated for all "essential action lines".
On Sunday 4 May 2003 synod members turned their attention to the 21 outcome rows across the 7 Broad Action Proposals. These were explored in group and plenary sessions, followed by a secret ballot the identify those considered most important in the life of the Archdiocese.
During the closing liturgy of the synod Assembly the Archbishop was presented with the prioritised recommendations of the Synod Assembly. Synod Members were invited to return to the Cathedral of St Stephen on Sunday 27 July 2003 to hear the promulgation of synod outcomes.
