Synod Promulgation

On Sunday 27 July 2003 in the Cathedral of St Stephen the following 9 priorities for pastoral planning across the Archdiocese were announced by the Archbishop.

Within a framework based on Jesus, Communion and Mission, the nine priorities were as follows: -

  1. That Catholics embrace the person and vision of Jesus Christ.
  2. That parish liturgy becomes more vibrant, meaningful and inclusive.
  3. That parishes are welcoming, inclusive communities to which people are drawn and have a strong sense of belonging.
  4. That Catholics recognise and value the impact of their everyday Christian living on building a better world.
  5. That young people are helped by a set of faith development opportunities to integrate their faith with everyday experience.
  6. That parish pastoral leadership is promoted, supported and resourced at all levels.
  7. That the person and message of Jesus and the works of the Church are effectively communicated in wider society.
  8. That parishes accept, value and use the initiative of small groups to nurture and support people on their faith journey.
  9. That a deep awareness of and commitment to social justice and social welfare are characteristic of Catholics throughout the Archdiocese of Brisbane.

A representative gathering of key people from around the Archdiocese will be called in 2008 to review progress on the implementation of the 9 priorities for pastoral planning throughout the Archdiocese.
